The Den is our nurture group and when operational, it is staffed by two adults (Miss Marshall and Mr Shaw).
Children are assessed on arrival and at regular intervals throughout the year to ensure any social, emotional and or behavioural needs are being met fully in their mainstream classroom. If a child has more complex needs and is assessed as being suitable for nurture provision, they are able to access The Den for all or part of their time during the school day, dependent on their individual needs.
Nurture groups offer a short term, focussed, intervention strategy, which addresses barriers to learning arising from social / emotional and or behavioural difficulties, in an inclusive, supportive manner. The provision is set up as a home from home environment with furniture donated from Next PLC and St Lawrence’s Church in Tinsley. The Den has its own kitchen area, living room and dining area which is all designed to provide a safe and secure environment in which the children can learn the essential skills needed in school and social situations.
The Den has really helped a large number of our pupils to develop the skills they need to manage their own emotions and to develop the necessary social skills that help them integrate better in their mainstream class.
