Sue is the Founder of HunterSmith Associates Ltd. HunterSmith Ltd delivers tailored consultancy services and training and development programmes. Sue has over twenty years’ hands-on and strategic Organisational and People Development experience in a range of different sectors, with a strong emphasis on skills development and change management.

A Chartered Member of the CIPD and a highly motivated Human Resource Development professional; Sue has a wide range of experience and skills and has extensive experience of managing people. She has excellent communication, influencing and presentation skills and is a competent researcher with experience of gaining funding from a variety of sources. Skilled in developing partnerships and employer engagement, Sue also has considerable experience of quality assurance processes and systems.

With expertise in the public, private and third sectors Sue has worked in Local Government, the Justice Sector, Skills Sector and Creative Industries as a senior manager and as a consultant – most recently as Development & Quality Assurance Manager at Skills for Justice, where she successfully led funding bids totalling just under £5million in six years. Prior to that, as Senior Training Consultant with Sheffield City Council, Sue was responsible for the development of the corporate NVQ centre, the development of an IT training strategy and the Corporate Customer Service programme.

Sue brings a wealth of experience and skills as Chair of Governors for Tinsley Meadows Primary Academy.

As Commissioner for Children’s Services in Sheffield, Antony brings invaluable skills, knowledge and experience to our Governing Body.

Within his broad portfolio at Sheffield City Council are: Partnerships with schools, Head of City Wide Learning Body, Parental and Young People Engagement and Consultation, Teaching and Learning Hubs and Consultant in Public Health.

 

More recently, Antony added to his remit by taking on the Inclusion and Learning Service. This involves senior accountability for a plethora of service areas such as performance monitoring of maintained schools, Early Years Learning Outcomes,  Children missing from education, SEN services, Academies, Behaviour and Inclusion, to name but a few.

Antony is an instrumental member of the governing body with a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience that bring significant value to our school.

Sheila Sutherland – Community Governor

Sheila is a local resident who has made significant contributions to the school over a number of years.

 

As a Community Governor, Sheila regularly attends school to listen to children reading, provide challenge on our SEND agenda, support with SATs revision and offer support to school leaders around safeguarding, equality and diversity and on the organisation of community events.

 

Sheila is a member of Tinsley Forum and has a portfolio of important connections with local residents, businesses and community groups.

 

Sheila is passionate about outcomes for children and holds the school to account on all aspects of its provision.

Steve Alexander

Steve has spent his professional life in education, teaching first in France and Nottingham before moving to Sheffield.
He taught in a number of Sheffield Primary schools before becoming the Deputy Head at Brook House Junior School and then Headteacher of that school.
He remained the Headteacher of Brook House for 25 years until retiring in 2008. He joined the governors of Tinsley Junior School soon afterwards and very much enjoys making a contribution to the development of this successful and challenging school.
His hobbies are travelling, the French language and caravanning.

David Sandilands

On leaving college, David had a varied career in education working initially as a class teacher in a number of schools. Later he became Head of Department, Deputy Headteacher and finally the Headteacher of two primary schools.  During this period he also worked on a freelance basis for the BBC; writing, producing and presenting programmes for Radio Sheffield’s children’s department.

 

On retiring from headship, David ran a Learning Support Unit which catered for the needs of children experiencing problems in mainstream school and when the funding for that was withdrawn he was transferred by Sheffield City Council to the role of Senior Learning Mentor in the newly formed Multi Agency Support Team in the Parson Cross/Ecclesfield Service District.

 

During the last two years of his career, David returned to work in a large primary school as a Pupil Support Officer.

 

Having finally retired from mainstream education, David now runs a small business buying and selling historical collectables as well as providing artefacts to schools and other organisations to support historical and cultural projects.

 

As well as being a governor for Tinsley Meadows Primary Academy, David also sits on the governing body of another Sheffield school.

Rebecca Webb is the Executive Headteacher at Tinsley Meadows Primary Academy.

 

Rebecca first joined Tinsley Junior School (prior to the creation of Tinsley Meadows) in 2009 in her capacity as Lead Headteacher on behalf of the Local Authority. Despite planning to stay only for a short period of time, Rebecca was successful in her application to become the substantive Headteacher in 2012.

 

Since this time, Rebecca has successfully led the two schools (now one school) to achieve a ‘good’ Ofsted judgement in 2013 and 2014. Alongside strategic planning to achieve an ‘outstanding’ judgement for Tinsley Meadows, Rebecca is also providing consultancy support to a number of schools in Sheffield and Rotherham.

Emma is the Executive Business Manager at Tinsley Meadows Primary Academy.

 

Emma began her employment with Tinsley Junior School in September 2011. Prior to this she worked as Head of Unplanned Care within Doncaster Primary Care Trust; overseeing the commissioning, procurement and performance management of key NHS services.

 

Having spanned ten years in the NHS, Emma has brought valuable skills and experience to the Business Manager position which include financial planning and management, knowledge of HR policies and procedures, marketing and communication expertise, procurement practices, and strategic leadership.

Helen Best is Head of School at the Lower Phase of Tinsley Meadows Primary Academy.

 

Helen began her employment with Tinsley Nursery Infant School in April 2006 as Deputy Head and in September 2013 became Head of School.  Prior to this she has had a varied teaching career teaching in Slough, Windsor and Derbyshire.  Helen works alongside the Core Senior Leadership Team to ensure that the Lower Phase continues to work towards ‘Outstanding’ teaching and learning and outcomes for all children who attend our school.

 

In 2013 Helen also joined the Local Authorities Moderating Team for the Early Years and is involved in providing Statutory Moderation training of EYFS colleagues in Sheffield.

Deborah Sanderson – Head of School

Deborah is the Head of School for the Upper phase of Tinsley Meadows Primary Academy.

She has worked at the school for over twelve years. As well as overseeing the daily running of the whole school, Deborah plays a key role in raising standards across Year 6.

 

Prior to her time at Tinsley, Deborah was Deputy Head and Class Teacher at Parson Cross School in Sheffield. Before undertaking her PGCE in 1989, Deborah worked as a Psychiatric Nurse for Rotherham Health Authority.

With a passion for literacy, history and educational research, Deborah brings a wealth of skills and experience to both the governing body and school.
Deborah lives in Rotherham with her husband and daughter and enjoys reading, going to the theatre and walking.

Laura Chambers is Assistant Head at Tinsley Meadows Primary Academy and part of the Senior Leadership Team.

Laura began her employment with Tinsley Junior School in September 2008. She has worked across school supporting children with their learning as well as supporting staff with planning, teaching and assessment.  As part of her role, Laura has led on the development of the Maths curriculum and has overseen performance across school.

More recently, Laura has taken on a new portfolio within which she oversees parental engagement.

Laura plays a key role in supporting student teachers with a view to developing excellence in teaching practice.

She also takes on a lead role in a number of projects across school including Reflected (a research study into the effects of collaborative learning), Exploring Tinsley Manor (our archaeological dig in partnership with The Lottery Fund) and P4C (Philosophy for Children).

Azad is a resident of Tinsley and has a daughter attending our school.

 

Azad started on a graduate training programme in the finance and insurance sector eventually becoming Operations Manager with the organisation.

 

Currently Azad works for a small training consultancy in the trades sector as a Operations Manager. Azad had been a governor of Tinsley Infants School before the schools merged in September 2014. He is passionate about the school giving our children the best start life to go on and fulfil their dreams.
